PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (December 31, 2001 - Post-Courier/PINA Nius Online)---Six months after attaining international recognition for quality training, the Papua New Guinea Maritime College is planning to operate regionally.

Announcing the college’s successful application for a K 5.9 million (US$ 1,599,370) grant from the PNG Incentive Fund, Prime Minister Sir Mekere Morauta said it would enable the college to enhance its status as a quality institution.

He said: "The college will ... double the size of its accommodations and improve catering and recreation facilities, allowing it to offer courses to students from other Pacific island nations and fulfill its role as a regional training center."

The funding will also allow major upgrades to the college’s simulation facilities, library and teaching laboratories, he said.
