CANBERRA, Australia (January 8, 2002 – Radio Australia)---The number of refugees Australia will accept from Nauru is to be discussed at a meeting in Canberra today.

Australia's Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock will meet representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, at Parliament House.

UNHCR argues that if other countries refuse to accept the refugees -- who were rejected by Australia and sent to Nauru -- Australia has a special responsibility to take them.

Mr. Ruddock disagrees.
