SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (January 15, 2002 - Marianas Variety/PINA Nius Online)---New Northern Marianas Governor Juan Babauta is optimistic that his transition team's reports will lead to much-needed improvements in government departments and agencies.

Babauta, previously the U.S. commonwealth’s Washington representative, said his administration would review the financial condition of the territorial government, and inform the people about it.

"This is the people's government and they have the right to know more about their government," he added.

"I am particularly interested in the financial information. We will be reviewing very closely the financial condition of the government and its obligations."

Babauta said he would "thoroughly go over" the reports which were submitted to him and Lieutenant Governor Diego Benavente.

Babauta expressed his "sincerest appreciation" to the Transition Committee for coming out with "very excellent reports."

"I would like to give a well deserving commendation and recognition to Transition Committee Chairman Tom Pangelinan, Vice Chairman Joe Lifoifoi and all the members for a job well done," Babauta added.
