SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 17, 2002 – Radio Australia)---Police in Fiji have a list of more than 100 suspects believed linked to a foiled plan to kidnap Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and other top government officials.

Commissioner of Police Isikia Savua says the list of names was provided by the five people originally detained over the plot.

The Commissioner says police will be interviewing all the suspects.

Of the five people originally detained, four have been charged with offences that include conspiracy to commit a felony, being in possession of seditious documents and threatening persons holding public office.

The fifth man, who alerted police to the plan, was later released.

Two soldiers suspected of having links to the plot have been arrested and charged with possessing firearms without a license.

Commissioner Savua says although the two soldiers have been charged solely on the basis of possessing illegal firearms, other charges relating to the kidnap plot could be laid against them.
