SOLOMONS BISHOP CALLS FOR RETURN TO DISARMAMENT PROCESS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (February 14, 2002 – Radio Australia)---The bishop of the Church of Melanesia’s Malaita diocese, Terry Brown, has called on former militants to become re-involved in the disarmament process.

In a statement, Bishop Terry said former militants who are still carrying weapons must work closely with the Peace Monitoring Council and International Peace Monitors.

He also called on the government to address the constant failure by police to either provide effective security for the general public or to arrest those responsible for crimes.
