KOREAN AIRLINES MAY SERVE POHNPEI, FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA

KOLONIA, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (March 1, 2002 – Pohnpei State PIO/FSM Information Services)---Pohnpei Governor Johnny P. David has taken the initiative to request that Korean Airlines utilize Pohnpei as an intermediate stop between Seoul, Korea, and Nandi, Fiji.

According to President Leo A. Falcam, the Department of Foreign Affairs has responded to all necessary diplomatic inquiries pertaining to the proposal

If Korean Airlines accepts the plan, it will result in vital, new international air services for the FSM.

The announcement of a special delegation’s planned visit to Korea from Pohnpei has been made to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea located in Suva.

The delegates will travel to the Korean capital, Seoul, early this month to discuss the possibility of the Pohnpei stopover with senior government officials in the Ministry of Transportation and Korean Airline representatives.

The delegates will include:

1) Governor Johnny P. David 2) Speaker Feliciano M. Perman, of the Pohnpei State Legislature 3) Senator Frederico Primo, Chairman of Transportation, Communication, and Infrastructure Committee 4) Yalmer Helgenberger, Administrator for the Office of Pohnpei State Economic Affairs 5) Jay Hwang, Special Economic Consultant, Pohnpei State Economic Affairs
