APIA, Samoa (March 6, 2002 - Samoa News/PINA Nius Online)---Making sure that every Samoan citizen is accorded every opportunity is the main priority for the government's "Strategy for the Development of Samoa 2002-2004" plan.

The Samoa Observer reported that government workers, business people and members of the public gathered at the Tooa Salamasina Hall to witness the unveiling of the plan.

The government was credited for allowing public input to the plan that would help improve living standards.

Norman Wetzel, speaking on behalf of the business community, said the plan will create a "better life in general in Samoa."

He quoted an American businessman saying: "We make money the old way. We earn it."

"We request the support and cooperation of the country, as many helping hands make it easier to carry a heavy load," Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is quoted by the Samoa Observer as saying during the ceremony.

The objectives of the plan call for: Stable Macroeconomic Framework; Improve Education Standards; Improve Health Standards; Improve Sector Development and Employment Creation; Enhance Agricultural Opportunities; Strengthen Social Structure; Improve Infrastructure and Services; Improve Opportunities for Tourism Industry; and Enhance Public Sector Efficiency.
