DOCTORS, NURSES WALK OUT FROM GIZO HOSPITAL

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (March 8, 2002 - SIBC/PINA Nius Online)---Doctors and nurses seconded to Western Province’s hospital in Gizo have walked off their jobs as a dispute over ex-gratia payments for government workers continues.

Minister for Health and Medical Service Augustine Taneko told the health workers that their profession is to take care of the sick and they should bear that in mind.

He said the Ministry of Health is dealing with the payments issue and hopes to have it resolved amicably soon.
