GOVERNMENT SETTLES DISPUTE WITH VANUATU POLICE FORCE

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (March 29, 2002 – Radio Australia)---A long-standing dispute over the payment of allowances to Vanuatu police has been settled, just ahead of general elections scheduled for May 4.

A ceremony was held at the office of Prime Minister Edward Natapei to mark the payment of US$ 640,000 into the Police Trust Fund.

Vanuatu’s Internal Affairs Ministry also announced that police salaries now would be increased, to bring them in line with other public service workers’ pay scales.
