FOREIGNERS MAKE UP A THIRD OF PALAU'S POPULATION

KOROR, Palau (April 2, 2002 - Palau Horizon/PINA Nius Online)---About 33 percent of Palau's population is made up of foreigners, according to the Division of Immigration.

There were 6,854 foreigners in 2001 who applied for visas in the country.

Palau's population was reported to be about 20,000, including foreigners.

Over 5,600 had working permits, with workers from the Philippines comprising the highest number, 3,589. Chinese workers were next with 1,023.
