Congressman Robert A. Underwood is pleased to announce that Jurell Veron Cruz, a senior at John F. Kennedy High School, is the winner of this year's Congressional High School Art Contest.

Jurell's prize-winning work, an oil-on-canvas entitled "Discovery," will take its place, representing Guam, alongside the artworks of other states and territories in the "An Artistic Discovery" display in the Capitol Building's corridor gallery in Washington, D.C.

Jurell will travel to Washington, courtesy of Continental Micronesia, to attend the congressional reception banquet honoring the winners of art contests nationwide and the opening of the 2002 "An Artistic Discovery" display.

Jurell is the son of Danilo R. and Martha L. Veron Cruz of Tamuning.

This year's contest drew 36 entries from students from six Guam high schools. The entries were on public display at the Hilton Gallery from March 21-24, during which the judging took place.
