RELIEF SUPPLIES FLOWN IN FOR MOROBE LANDSLIDE VICTIMS

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (April 5, 2002 – Radio Australia)---The Morobe provincial administration is flying in relief supplies -- including medicine -- to assist those injured and left homeless by Tuesday's devastating landslide.

As many as 60 people are dead or missing following the landslide that struck two remote coffee plantation villages.

A provincial government team that inspected the disaster site yesterday, reported that 36 people had been confirmed dead.

A search is continuing for another 28 people unaccounted for.

Up to 11 people were evacuated from the disaster site by helicopter and are being treated in regional hospitals for a range of injuries.
