SUVA, Fiji Islands (April 29, 2002 – Radio Australia)---Fiji is expecting its best ever tourism results this year.

Visitor arrivals during the first three months of this year are ahead of those posted during the first quarter of 1999, when a record number of tourists came to Fiji.

A 51 percent increase in visitors from Australia was registered last month, along with a 20 percent increase in arrivals from New Zealand.

The marketing director of the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Joe Tuamotu, said the slump caused by the May 2000 coup has been pushed into the past by the current promotion of Fiji as a destination offering "true relaxation."

"True relaxation is identified as the main motivator for people to travel to Fiji from all over then world," he said.
