FRENCH POLYNESIA SALUTES NEW FRENCH OVERSEAS MINISTER GIRARDIN

PAPE‘ETE, Tahiti, French Polynesia (May 7, 2002 – Tahitipresse)---The government of French Polynesia expressed its "satisfaction" with the establishment in Paris Tuesday of the new position of Minister for Overseas Territories and the appointment of Brigitte Girardin to take up the post.

Christian Paul, in charge of overseas territories in the previous French government, had a lesser rank.

The territorial government pointed out that new minister Girardin knows Tahiti well. She had been President Jacques Chirac’s special adviser for overseas territories in the past.
