THREE YEARS IN JAIL FOR MARSHALL ISLANDS PASSPORT SCAM’S CHENG

MAJURO, Marshall Islands (May 29, 2002 – Radio Australia)---A man who ran a fraudulent scheme to sell Marshall Islands passports to Asians has been sentenced to nearly three years' imprisonment in Los Angeles.

Tommy Ho Ching Cheng sold Marshall Islands passports for US$ 30,000 each to people in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

He claimed the passports could be used to gain visa-free entry into the United States.

Cheng made several million dollars from the scam.

He has been ordered to compensate his victims.

Cheng also was found guilty of tax evasion.
