JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR PACIFIC ISLANDERS AT THE UNITED NATIONS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (July 29, 2002 - SIBC/PINA Nius Online)---Solomon Islanders and other Pacific Islanders are being urged to apply for junior professional officer positions with the United Nations.

A Solomon Islander working at the United Nations Secretariat in New York, Peter Kenilorea, Jr., said opportunities are currently available.

Kenilorea told SIBC News that applications are being requested for the 2003 National Competitive Recruitment Examinations.

Pacific Islanders have often been under represented in United Nations agency positions, according to recent disclosures by the regional news magazine Pacific.

Kenilorea said recruitment applications for 2003 will be in the following occupational groups:

- Economics,

- Finance,

- Information Technology,

- Legal Affairs,

- Library and Statistics.

Completed application forms must be received by the Examinations and Tests Section in New York by September 20, Kenilorea said.

Applicants should not be more than 32 years old on December 31, 2003, he said.

Those wishing to apply can get further information and application forms from their foreign affairs ministries or the United Nations directly.
