TAMUNING, Guam (August 16, 2002 – Marianas Variety)---Representatives of the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) will target the Korean honeymoon market during the upcoming WEDDEX Trade Show in Seoul, Korea.

"The Weddex show is designed primarily to give potential honeymooners an opportunity to start choosing destinations. Honeymoon season runs from September through early November. We have a campaign that’s ongoing to give incentives for honeymooners to choose Guam as opposed to other destinations for their honeymoon," said GVB Korea Marketing Committee Chairman Dave Tydingco.

It is expected that the trade show will enable GVB to achieve its goal of attracting 150,000 Koreans by the end of the year.

The number of Korean visitors to arrive in Guam as of June 2002 reached 65,493, which reflects a 75 percent increase compared to the same period in 2001, when 42,988 Koreans arrived on Guam, according to a summary statistical report posted by the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association.

The WEDDEX show, which was first held in 1992, is held twice a year.

The Guam delegation to WEDDEX is comprised of representatives from the Pacific Islands Club, Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Guam, Royal Orchid Hotel and SandCastle.

Miss Guam Tourism 2001, Cesley Alvarez, will model gowns at the daily fashion shows. She also will distribute brochures about Guam.

James Nelson II, GVB General Manager, stated that GVB delegates will meet with travel trade executives and the Korea Guam Tourism Council to discuss Guam’s commitment to widen its Korean market.
