PALAU’S LEGISLATURE TO GO ONLINE

By Bernadette H. Carreon For Variety

KOROR, Palau (August 27, 2002 - Palau Horizon/Marianas Variety)---Palau’s national legislature, the Olbiil Era Kelulau, will soon go online.

Palau National Communications Corp. is now working on OEK’s website, which will allow the public to access information about the legislature from the Internet.

The OEK will be provided local area network facilities so that senators, delegates, the standing committees and their staff will have e-mail services and unlimited Internet access.

The website will contain a directory of the members of the Senate and the House of Delegates and copies of the bills introduced by lawmakers.

The website also will post articles about the OEK and notable speeches, including the President’s State of the Republic Address and other pertinent documents.

Moreover, the website will provide a citizens’ forum to allow the public to post their comments regarding current issues and bills being discussed in the OEK.

The website aims to promote "E-government," which could reduce costs while providing better services to the citizens of Palau.

The OEK will be given a flat rate for the website.

PNCC will also provide training for the OEK staff in the loading of documents onto the website.
