PALAU AND EAST TIMOR ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC LINKS

KOROR, Palau (September 4, 2002 – Radio Australia)---Palau has become the latest Pacific Island nation to establish diplomatic ties with East Timor, the world’s newest independent country.

A Palau government spokesman said agreement on the issue was reached during the recent Pacific Islands Forum summit in Fiji.

He said the two countries will soon discuss areas of cooperation, which will include fisheries and employment issues such as the training of civil servants.
