THIRD MURDER ON RAPA NUI  IN 113 YEARS

HANGAROA, Rapa Nui, Chile (September 6, 2002 – Radio Australia)---The first murder case in more than 15 years has been reported from Rapa Nui (Easter Island).

Police in the remote Chilean Pacific outpost say a 40-year-old man has been arrested over the stabbing death of his estranged wife.

Local officials say it's only the third murder on the island in 113 years, the last one taking place in 1986.

The island has a population of about 4,000.
