SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (September 30, 2002 – Marianas Variety)---After a series of discussions with the CNMI government, a famous Japanese television show has agreed to tape its 2,000th episode on Saipan, Marianas Visitors Authority Deputy Managing Director Vicky I. Benavente said on Saturday.

She said the "Sato-san" television show will be aired at least "three days" and will give the CNMI "maximum exposure."

"It will be filmed here and taped on the island and will be watched by Japanese households," Benavente said.

The contract will cost the CNMI $45,000, but the Office of Insular Affairs has granted the commonwealth $30,000 as technical assistance. MVA is now asking the local business community to help raised the additional $15,000, Benavente said.

She will meet with lawmakers today to discuss the taping of the television show, and to secure additional financial assistance for it.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Benavente were supposed to leave for Japan on Sept. 25 and meet with the show’s producers and host, but the trip has been re-scheduled for sometime in October.
