PAPE‘ETE, French Polynesia (Oct. 10, 2002 – Tahitipresse)---Eight Tahitian companies will take part in the next SIAL international food fair in Paris from Oct. 20-24. Last year, about 130,000 persons visited this fair.

Most of the visitors are food company managers looking for good opportunities and new products on the market; members of the Tahiti Chamber of Commerce said last week.

More than 500 companies are expected to show their products during the event. Tahitian products on exhibition this year will include vanilla, fish and local alcoholic beverages.

Hubert Viaris de Lesegno, from the Export Commission at the Tahiti Chamber of Commerce, is confident about the outcome of the operation. However, he said tough European legislation and the small quantity of goods produced in Tahiti are real problems for successful exports.

"But I must say Tahitian companies at the international food fair usually get satisfactory results," he added.
