NON-RESIDENT AMBASSADOR OF
SWEDEN
TO
TONGA

Government has granted its agre’ment to the appointment of His Excellency Mr. Lars-Erik Wingren, as Ambassador of Sweden to the Kingdom of Tonga, with residence in Canberra, Australia.

Mr. Lars-Erik Wingren has been serving in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 35 years. He commenced his diplomatic career as Second Secretary of the Sweden Government to Mexico (1970), and Brussels (1972). In 1981, Mr. Lars-Erik Wingren was promoted as First Secretary of Sweden to Warsaw (Poland). He was then recalled to Sweden in 1986 to become Deputy Head, Disarmament of Arms Control.

In 1990, Mr. Wingren served as Swedish Ambassador to Jakarta. He then returned to Sweden in 1994 to Head the Strategic Exports Controls Division and subsequently the Asia Division in 1996. By May 2000, Lars-Erik Wingren became the Appointed Ambassador of Sweden to Australia hence countries affiliated with Sweden in the South Pacific.

Apart from his diplomatic career, Mr. Lars-Erik Wingren was involved in the Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust as conference coordinator.

Mr. Lars-Erik Wingren is 59 years old and holds a Master of Business Administration from Stockholm School of Economics.
