SYDNEY, Australia (Radio Australia, Dec. 12) - The Philippines Department of Agriculture has lifted a ban on imported beef from Australia, less than a month after it was imposed.

Radio Australia Shirley Escalante says agriculture officials are processing quarantine vetinary clearances for importers of Australian beef products.

She adds that the ban on Australian beef was imposed after a case of anthrax contamination was reported.

"Agriculture officials say they have received an official report from Australia saying its beef products are safe," said Escalante.

She says the cow that died after being infected by the anthrax virus was burned, and the virus did not spread to other animals on a beef property in the state of Victoria.

Officials say they will closely screen beef imports from Australia.
