GUAM, CNMI TEAM UP TO LOBBY FOR US FUNDS

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Jan. 13) - Guam and the Northern Marianas have established a regional partnership to lobby the United States government for more funds.

Guam Governor Felix Camacho has told local newspaper Marianas Variety that Hawaii has already agreed to assist in negotiations with Washington over the issue of additional funds for the two US territories.

He says separate talks will be initiated with Japan and South Korea, which are vital to regional tourism.

Camacho says millions of dollars could be saved through regional cooperation in health and education, but federal funds are needed for the construction of facilities.

The Northern Marianas governor, Juan N. Babauta has also proposed talks with neighboring islands to establish a regional health care system.
