PNG PROSTITUTES SENTENCED TO HARD LABOR

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (Radio Australia, Jan. 29) - A group of 18 Papua New Guinea women has been sentenced to six months in prison with hard labor for prostitution.

Police Superintendent Simon Kauba said officers picked up the women while they were conducting their activities in Lae, Papua New Guinea's second city.

"Police will continue to pick up those who go around and continue to carry out this illegal activity in city vicinity," said Kauba.

The Lae court said the women would return to their home provinces upon completion of their prison terms.
