CASH-STRAPPED SOLOMONS CUTS OVERSEAS DIPLOMACY

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Radio Australia, Jan. 31) - The Solomon Islands cash-strapped government has announced further cuts to its diplomatic missions overseas.

The Foreign Affairs Department says the country’s five overseas missions will be staffed by heads of division only, with other officials being recalled to the capital, Honiara.

It has also been announced that Beraki Jino has been appointed as new ambassador to Taiwan.

In addition to Taipai, Solomon Islands has diplomatic representation at the United Nations, European Union, Papua New Guinea and Australia.
