KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon/Marianas Variety, Feb. 6) - At least 40 representatives of the tourism industries from Micronesia and Hawaii will gather in Palau this month for the second quarterly meeting of the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s Micronesia chapter.

The meeting will be held Feb. 21 to 23 at the Palau International Coral Reef Center.

The participants will discuss topics involving the chapter’s standing committees, which include marketing, special projects, education, and strengths and weakness opportunities and threats.

"The purpose of the meeting is to discuss ways to promote and develop the region in terms of tourism and travel as we move forward as a group," said Leah Asanuma, marketing assistant of Palau Visitors Authority.

Among the speakers during the meeting are Lubuw Falanruw of Hawaii who will talk on technology in the travel industry; and Allen Seid who will talk about Rock Island Air.

PVA and Palau Community College’s Hospitality and Tourism Club will host the welcome dinner while the farewell dinner will be hosted by Sam’s Tours and the Belau Tourism Association.

The meeting, which was supposed to be held in December last year, was postponed due to Supertyphoon Pongsona, which devastated Guam and Rota.

The next meeting is to be held in Chuuk in March.
