BUSH LAUDS CNMI ROLE IN NATIONAL SECURITY

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Feb. 26) - United States President George Bush has praised the role of the Northern Marianas in the nation's security.

Bush made the tribute during a reception for 55 U.S. state and territorial governors in Washington.

The governor of the CNMI, Juan Babauta, who attended the reception at the White House, said the President was greatly interested in the role of the Northern Marianas.

The CNMI island of Farallon de Medinilla has been a live fire training range for the U.S. military for more than 30 years.

The governor said U.S. Vice President, Dick Cheney, also expressed his appreciation to the people of the CNMI.
