FRENCH SCIENTISTS STUDY TAHITIAN PLANTS

PAPE‘ETE, Tahiti, (Tahipresse, Feb. 26) - A team of three French experts is on a mission in French Polynesia, from Feb 23 to March 5, to evaluate the pharmaceutical value of tahitian plants.

The project is sponsored by the French scientific body Institut De Recherche Pour Le Développement).

Christian Moretti, Marianne Berthod and Celine Bonhomme will report to the Minister for Agriculture, who initiated the mission.

The minister said the mission will also help French Polynesia to get a "biological label" for Tahitian export products.

"The goal of our mission is to propose a plan to increase the value of natural products such as kava, nono and tamanu oil," Berthod said. "We will meet experts in Tahiti and see with them how to come up with value-added products in the long run."
