WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Mar.13) - A Solomon Islands health official has confirmed that newborn babies have not been vaccinated for the past week because the country has run out of needed drugs.

Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Dr Dennie Iniakwala, says the Japanese Government has provided emergency funding assistance of around US$90,000. But it is expected to be the end of the month before the drugs will be available in the Solomons.

In the meantime Iniakwala has called for parents to be extra vigilant and try to ensure their children do not get sick.
