WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Mar. 25) - The U.S. Army at the Kwajalein missile testing range in the Marshall Islands said it intends to turn to local business to provide supplies.

Kwajalein commander, Colonel Jerry Brown, told the Majuro Chamber of Commerce that some people might be skeptical because of past promises that were not delivered upon.

But he said he wanted to open the door to Marshallese businesses to provide services, including many that have previously been provided by U.S.-based contractors.

Colonel Brown said the Army would not favour businesses from the Marshall Islands, but it would create a level playing field to enable them to compete.
