SUVA, Fiji (Radio Australia, April 1) - The new United States
ambassador to Fiji, David Lyons, says political stability is vital for the
country’s economic well-being.

Lyons says a stable Fiji will ensure economic and social
prosperity and help protect it from terrorism.

Speaking to indigenous chiefs in the province of Ba, the US
ambassador says the United State will support human rights, democracy and a rule
of law in Fiji.

He says a prosperous Fiji will attract much needed American
investments to the country.

Lyons says his embassy is keeping a close watch over Americans
who visit Fiji, to ensure their security.

Loga says around 60,000 Americans visit Fiji every year.
