MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, April 23) - The
government of Australia's Northern Territory is expected to decide the fate of
the Arafura Games today.

The Games are under pressure because of increasing concerns
about Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

The games attract athletes from around the Asia-Pacific region
to the city of Darwin.

A Territory Cabinet meeting has discussed the impact of SARS on
next month's games.

Ministers were briefed on infection control measures and the
possible threat the epidemic poses to athletes and officials.

Ministers have also been updated on registration figures for the
event.

Thus far, the sports of judo and lifesaving have pulled out of
the competition blaming the virus and poor registration.
