AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Radio Australia, April 23) - Grave fears
are held for the safety of the crew of a Taiwanese fishing boat missing in the
Tasman Sea.

The fishing vessel, one of a fleet of nine operating out of
Fiji, was reported missing by Taiwanese authorities last week.

A recent search has failed to find the boat, or the 17 men on
board.

Other fishing boats that went to its aid found oil and debris
but no sign of the boat or its crew. New Zealand's air force then sent up an
Orion aircraft that also failed to find the vessel.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is making broadcasts to
all ships passing through the area to report any signs of the missing boat.
