SOLOMONS HOST MELANESIAN SPEARHEAD GROUP

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SBIC, April 27) - Government and non
government representatives attending the Melanesian Spearhead Group National
Consultation workshop which starts tomorrow in Honiara will be updated with
issues affecting Solomon Islands since the signing of the MSG Trade Agreement.

On Tuesday, participants will be updated on Solomon Islands
Trade with MSG member countries as well as schedule of Concession.

They will also be holding discussions on the review of the MSG
Trade Agreement and the possibility of moving towards the Free Trade Agreement.

Participants will be updated on tariff rates, quarantine and
standard and conformity as well as domestic tax system and immigration issues.

On Wednesday they will be briefed of the Pacific Island
Countries Trade Agreement, the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations,
the Cotonou Agreement and the World Trade Organisation related issues.

Other issue to be discussed is the hosting of the 12th Trade and
Economic Officials meeting in Honiara between July 21 and 22.
