WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, May 1) - A federal grand jury in
Hawaii has charged eight people arrested Wednesday in American Samoa with
conspiracy and mail fraud.

The charges are related to an alleged scheme to defraud an
American insurance company of US$280,000.

Two of the suspects, Tausiga Ofoia and Ateliana Teo, are alleged
to have used their positions as clerks at the LBJ Medical Center to alter
records in order to get benefits for those in the alleged conspiracy.

The scheme allegedly involved forged records for payments from
the American Family Life Assurance Company

In a second indictment, Irata Finuaga is accused of using her
position as an insurance brokerage employee to intercept legitimate claims and
alter them so she could receive payments.

The identities of the remaining suspects were not immediately
available.
