SYDNEY, Australia (ABC News Online, May 22) - Papua New Guinea's
Parliament has bid farewell to the late governor of Simbu province, the popular
Father Louis Ambane.

Father Ambane died of liver failure in a Port Moresby hospital
earlier this month.

The third leader of the Simbu province to die in office, the
former Catholic priest was remembered during a condolence motion in Parliament
this morning.

Ambane's body lay before the House in a white casket as leaders
from across the political spectrum paid tribute to a man described as a quietly
spoken leader who worked tirelessly for the development of his highlands
province.

A state funeral will be held in Port Moresby this afternoon
before political leaders take Ambane to the Simbu provincial capital Kundiawa
tomorrow.
