FIJI HOPES TO REVIVE FLAGGING FOREIGN INVESTMENT

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, May 26) - Fiji is
reviewing its patents, trademarks and designs legislation to enhance direct
foreign investment for the country.

According to the justice ministry, the existing legislation is
out of date.

Government statistics show that 925 investments and 36,000
trademarks were recorded between 1983 and April this year.

Government figures further show that foreign investment dropped
between 1998 and 2002, recording only 62 investments.
