KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, May 28) — Japan Airlines will
have additional chartered flights to Palau in July, according to Ken’ichi
Inoue, JAL’s regional manager.

Inoue said starting July, JAL will have weekly chartered flights
from Narita and Nagoya.

Inoue said Japanese tourists are now more at ease in traveling
to Palau, following the local government’s travel directive barring the entry
of individuals from countries identified by the World Health Organization to be

"Since Palau is a SARS-free nation and because we heard of
the temporary closing of flights from Taiwan, the main office decided to
increase chartered flights," Inoue said.

He said the steps taken by Palau to keep the country free from
SARS has made it a safe travel destination.

But Inoue admitted that the airline’s chartered flights have
been affected by fears over SARS as shown in the reduction in bookings for
April, May and June.

Still, Inoue said JAL is expecting more Japanese tourists to
visit Palau in July as the airline has been conducting promotions in Japan.

Japan is Palau’s top tourism market while SARS-affected Taiwan
is the second largest market.
