HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, June 16) – One special
constable was killed in a gun battle at Marasa on Guadalcanal's Weather Coast
yesterday, where earlier reports said six were missing and presumed dead in an
operation to capture rebel leader Harold Keke.

Police said the six, along with three other members of a special
team, returned safely to Honiara after a shoot out at Marasa.

Police said a boat the men were in went ashore on Marasa when it
was attacked and an exchange of fire took place.

Police also confirmed that a special constable stationed at the
Weather Coast is reported dead after the exchange of fire.

Reports reaching SIBC earlier had said that the six people were
missing after their boat was shot at yesterday evening, at Marasa.

Two boats carrying members of the Civilian Friendly Force from
Weather Coast who are helping police operations in the Weather Coast had left
Honiara yesterday afternoon for the area.

The two boats were carrying ration supplies for those involved
in the operation to capture the rebel leader.

The one that had managed to escape the incident at Marasa
yesterday arrived back in Honiara at half-past one early this morning.
