MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, June 19) - Palau's
Justice Minister Michael J. Rosenthal said alcohol abuse remains one of the
major concerns of law enforcement agencies in the island-nation.

Rosenthal has urged the public to "work together" to
address alcohol abuse, which, he said is the primary cause of serious car
crashes and violent crimes in Palau.

He said the cost of alcohol abuse to the community is staggering
in terms of injuries, loss of life, and damage to property.

Last year, Palau's President Tommy Remengesau declared December
as Drunk Driving Prevention Month.

Recent car crashes in Palau have been attributed to drivers
under the influence of alcohol, especially following graduation celebrations.
