AUSTRALIA PLEDGES $100,000 FOR SOLOMONS REFUGEES

SYDNEY, Australia (ABC News Online, July 7) - More than 1,000 displaced villagers on Solomon Islands will receive $100,000 in Australian aid.

The Federal Government has announced the money will help provide shelter, food, clothing and cooking items for Solomon Islanders affected by the activities of renegade Harold Keke.

The displaced villagers come from the Weather Coast region of Guadalcanal and most are now living in a village on the outskirts of the Solomon's capital, Honiara.

The Australian assistance will be distributed via the Solomon Islands Red Cross and the National Disaster Management Office.
