SOURCE: $2 BILLION SOLOMONS’ DEBT TO BE PAID

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, July 8) – A government source said Solomon Islands’ $2 billion in overseas and domestic debts is to be paid by increased assistance from Australia and New Zealand as part of the proposed intervention.

A well-placed government source told SIBC that all of government's debt would be settled in the economic recovery component of the intervention.

National Parliament has started its two-week meeting that will see the debate of a motion on government's policy statement on the offer by the government of Australia for strengthened assistance to Solomon Islands.

The Policy Statement will be debated this week, followed by debate of the Enabling Bill for the intervention next week.
