FREELY ASSOCIATED STATES LEADERS TO MEET IN MAJURO

KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon) —Palau President Tommy Remengesau said the Marshall Islands will host this year’s meeting of the presidents of the three Freely Associated States — Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia.

The meeting is scheduled August 7 in Majuro.

The three states are independent nations "freely associated" with the United States.

Remengesau will meet with FSM President Joseph Urusemal and Marshalls President Kessai Note.

Remengesau said Palau will spearhead discussions on solid waste and renewable energy.

The three FAS leaders will also consult each other on issues including U.S. compacts and the possibility of a new regional airline.

According to Remengesau, the summit is expected to tackle a regional strategy for the next Pacific Island Forum.
