SOLOMONS OBSERVE 61ST ANNIVERSARY OF U.S. WWII LANDING

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Aug. 6) - A Veterans Day
ceremony to mark the 61st anniversary of the landing of United States troops on
Red Beach, Guadalcanal in 1942 will be held tomorrow at Skyline World War Two
Memorial.

The ceremony, which starts at 8 a.m., is open to the public and
World War II veterans from the U.S.

Regional troops currently in the country under the Regional
Assistance Mission will also attend the ceremony.

This will also be followed by another wreath laying ceremony at
the Sir Jacob Vouza monument at Rove.

The event is being organized by the World War II Veterans
Association to mark the landing of U.S. troops on the island 61 years ago.
