WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Aug. 10) - The first visit to
Samoa by members of Japan's imperial family is planned for October, when the
Japanese-funded Apia port expansion project is to be handed over to the
government of Samoa.

A release from Japan's embassy in New Zealand announced the
visit of Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino.

Japan donated about US$6.5 million for the expansion project,
part of continuing efforts to improve facilities at Apia wharf for incoming
ships.

Last year, Japan gave Samoa more than $US4 million in aid.
