TONGA SEA LEVEL RISE HIGHEST IN WORLD

SYDNEY, Australia (ABC News Online, Sept. 8) - Researchers have found sea levels in the kingdom of Tonga have risen slightly more than in other Pacific countries and across the rest of the world.

The discovery was made during the third phase of the South Pacific Sea Level and Climate Monitoring Project funded by Australia's aid agency, AusAID.

The project's regional coordinator, Dr Chalapan Kaluwin, says sea levels in Tonga have risen by more than the global average, over the past 10 years.

But he says it will take another two to three years to determine if the increase is due to land or earthquake movements.
