ISLANDWIDE POWER OUTAGE ON GUAM

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Oct. 14) - Guam suffered an islandwide power failure yesterday after a mechanical problem at a generator which was aggravated by a faulty transmission line.

The blackout occurred on October the 13th for the third year running, with previous failures caused by power plant problems and earthquakes.

Press reports say half of the island had power restored within four hours.

The outage has caused concern about the safety of the water supply.
