MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Oct. 30) - Niue is expected to join the Cook Islands in a New Zealand teacher recruitment scheme.

Education officials in Niue say the go ahead for a seventh form class in the National Certificate in Education Achievement scheme will require hiring more qualified high school teachers.

Almost three years ago, 10 Niuean secondary school teachers quit their jobs after they went on strike for higher pay.

Replacement teachers were hired in New Zealand.

In Cook Islands, the government is struggling to fill teaching posts and recruitment for high school teachers is underway.
